Dastan-e-Ghare Baire
Dastan-e-Ghare Baire, written by Mahmood Farooqui to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, reimagines the author’s iconic novel Ghare-Baire into the traditional storytelling form of the dastangoi. Set against the charged atmosphere of the Swadeshi movement of 1905, the piece explores the shifting tides of nationalism, identity, and desire through the intertwined lives of Nikhil, Bimala, and Sandip. With poetic language infused with the cadences of Faiz and Meer, the dastan becomes a vivid exploration of the volatile boundary between the private and the political.
