Dohri Zindagi
When two greedy merchants from Rajasthan promise their unborn children to each other in marriage, fate takes an unexpected turn – both have daughters. To keep his word, one father lies that he has a son and raises his daughter as a boy, leading to a marriage between two young women.
What happens on their wedding night? Will they be trapped by a patriarchal deception or find the courage to shape their own destiny?
Based on Padma Shri Vijaydan Dethas` acclaimed short story, Dohri Zindagi weaves Rajasthani folk storytelling and music into a powerful tale of love, identity and resilience.
Using a minimalist set and cast, the play boldly explores the theme of same-sex love. Its use of rural dialect, the traditional kawad storytelling form, and folk songs from the Marwar region lends the production authenticity and cultural richness, while seamlessly supporting its powerful and unconventional narrative.
