Glitch in the Myth

Glitch in the Myth is a daring reimagination of the Ramayana from Sita’s point of view. Conceived, written, directed, and performed by Anoushka Zaveri, this solo piece challenges the traditional narrative by asking: what if Sita is not just a dutiful wife, but a revolutionary rewriting her own fate?

From her childhood in Mithila to her swayamvara, her time in Ayodhya’s court, her exile in the forest, and finally, her enigmatic disappearance — the play retraces Sita’s journey. But it doesn’t stop at retelling. A “secret sisterhood” of women — including Surpanakha and Mandodari — emerges as her allies, working behind the scenes to change the story.

Through “glitches” (moments when Sita struggles to move or speak), Zaveri symbolically expresses how she is trapped in a myth she didn’t fully consent to. The performance fuses Bharatanatyam, rap, classical music, and contemporary language to disrupt expectations.

Minimalist staging — with just four saris, a stick, and a few props — heightens the power of movement, voice, and storytelling. In the process, Glitch in the Myth invites the audience on a journey of music, dance, poetry, laughter, and revolution — demanding that you forget what you’ve been told and imagine a Sita who refuses to be silent.
